A system called Terra-Vision, developed in Berlin by Gerd Grüneis, embodies some of the facilities of the Geoscope. Satellite data is combined to form an image of Earth which is then projected onto a large screen. The movement of the image is controlled by a sphere one metre wide, whose rotation by the user spins the projected globe. The system downloads real-time weather data, and also enables zooming in to street-level images (Guardian, 14 March 1996).
